Windows Boot Manager comes up at power up with message: " Windows failed to start..........Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." No previous problems with bootup, but, yesterday I hooked up a new External HD (WD Passport, 1 TB) in order to backup my entire computer. Everything went well: formatted, partitioned the drive (500 GB in size) but I clicked on "active" on one of the menus. Seem to recall that only one partition on a HD can be active, and in the case of the C:/ drive that is the default location for the MBR, but that drive is also the default location for the OS (unless otherwise designated). I didn't think it would be a problem if I made a partition active on another drive entirely. I only have WIN 7 on the machine, but I'm guessing the BIOS is looking for the OS on the External HD (it doesn't boot whether I have the Ext. HD hooked up or not), isn't finding an MBR or an OS. However, before shutting off the computer yesterday, I created a system image on the Ext. HD as was my intention in the first place. Turned off the computer, and didn't restart it until today, whereupon the no boot, error message events started.
Notebook won't boot, external HD added. Pavilion g6, WIN 7

Hp Pavilion G6-1186sa Bios Corruption (2 blinks on caps lock)

Pavilion g6 - Hard disk (3FO) - but disk works in different laptop?????

2. Windows 7 64bit
3. Boot Device Not Found

Hard Disk (3F0)
4. Hinges snapped, so disassembled completely but DID NOT remove the HD. Realised I'd bought hinges for the wrong model, so put it back together and worked fine.
Week later, new hinges mkII arrived. Disassembled again (stll didn't remove HD) replaced hinges, reassembled, and cue error message on startup.
I've tried reseating multiple times. Have reset the BIOS settings, and attempted t recover using F11 at stat up. Same error every time.
I've tried connecting to another laptop using an external HD box. Disk spins but does not show up in My compuer or device manager. Conclude this doesn't tseem good.
In a last ditch attempt to salvage files from said disk, I connected it directly into my toshiba laptop and prayed. And it worked - my laptop booted up in what appeared to be safe mode, and I was abe to burn files from the Pavilion HD to a DVD. (Took the HD back outt, put my toshiba HD back in and no damage done).
So...is the HD dead or not? I'm loathe to buy a new one just yet....
Pavilion dv7 1132nr - amber wifi - Non-working touch strip
Hello,
I am trying to fix my parent's laptop that had a HD go down. We bought a new HD and installed a valid copy of Windows Vista and everything is fine except that the touch strip does not work and the wifi button is stuck in amber/disabled.
The only device manager item I cannot find a driver for is the wifi and it shows as "Ethernet Controller" in the device manager.
I've tried every single update possible from hp.com and I still cannot get the thing to work.
I tried to install the atheros and broadcom driver w/o any luck. Updated the BIOS as well. HP Wireless assistant shows the adapter as DISABLED.
I have googled and browsed most of the related topic I could find on this page. Any advice would be greatly appreicated.
Resource Conflict – Serial Bus Controller & PCI Bus Issues - Cannot Load Windows 7
Anyone have any ideas about a remedy? I am ready to toss it and purchase another. THANKS!
HP Pavilion Notebook, dv9827cl
AMD Turion 64 x 2, Bios F.34
Windows 7, SP 1 (Upgraded from OEM Vista SP2)
PROBLEM: This morning my system has a blank illuminated screen. Upon power-on, the system eventually goes to the blank screen. Can get to BIOS functions, but beyond that it will not load Windows 7.
System was working with Windows 7 prior to this issue. No recent changes or updates made to this system. Stationary - No physical abuse. Five (5) years old.
Upon power-on, the screen gives PF keys, which enable me to enter the BIOS:
F1 – System Information> Clock still has correct date and time.
F2 – StartupCheck -> Both HD and RAM OK
F9 – ChangeBootDeviceOrder -> Can change device order, but it still won’t boot or respond to a System Recovery DVD in a USB DVD. ( Notebook DVD stopped working before this problem happened.)
F10 - EnterSetup
F11 – SystemRecovery– Two choices, but <enter> and arrow keys do not work. (They DO work with other F-selections, but not with F-11 menu)
(1) ContinuewithSystemResume
(2) Delete RestorationDataandProceedto SystemBoot
OTHER OBSERVATION: When access PF1, I get the BIOS. If I exit and save with PF10, I get a brief flash of error messages, then it goes back to the PF-selections and eventually to the blank screen. Here are the error messages:
Bios Version F.34

new ssd with recovery discs
I have an HP dv6. My 500 gig hard drive crashed but I was able to make the "recovery discs, 7 (WIN 7) before it died completely. I just installed a new 128 Gig SSD. I booted to the 1st recovery disc and it read, "Reformatting the Windows partition of your hard disc drive" I loaded all 7 discs and tried to reboot and it froze with the BIOS message " hit esc for boot options or?? (close) I waited for 30 min or so and turned it off and started again and hit escape to get boot options. I selected hard drive and got a messae of no boot, insert bootable CD. I put in the 1st disc again and chose from the HP menu to do recovery again.and let it start again. So her I am on my "slow" 8 year old Compaq asking for help!

G61 632NR Notebook Blank Screen
Hello. My notebook screen stays black with the caps light and light on the right hand corner (between end and page up) continously blinking. Also there is a light by the space bar that stays on. My internet light stays amber and won't go to blue to turn on.
I tried the reset taking the battery out and pressing power down for three times, and that didn't work.
I have pretty low tech skills, but I saw other posts about hard drives, but I don't know how to test that for sure. Also, when it last worked, the battery was pretty low, but that may have nothing to do with this problem. (The third prong of the plug recently broke off too, but I have charged it for hours.)
Thanks (and hopefully future kudos) for any help!!!
system recovery
Hello people,
I have royaly balls'd up today and have managed to save Ubuntu onto the wrong partition, overwriting my windows 7!
I have a Notebook pavilion dm1 which had win7 installed from purchase, and today I wanted to partition the hdd (c:) in order to have a dual boot system. having done this a few times before with windows OS's I was pretty confident in what I was doing, so didnt bother to back-up everything.
When creating the partition during Ubuntu installation it was a little confusing as the drives where not named and the specified space was not the same as what was displayed in win7, prior to installing Ubuntu. I continued with the installation, thinking it was formating the newly made partition, only to realise when attempting to boot into Windows after that it had wiped everything... wooops!
Through my Ubuntu installation I was able to access the other partitions left, which consisted of just the recovery files, and which I have now moved onto an external usb hdd. I have attempted to boot from the external usb hdd to run the recovery (not even sure if that is the correct procedure) but it didn't work! and the pavilion dm1 doesn't have a disk drive, so I cannot make/use a bootable cd with the recovery files.
What is the procedure now for me to either recover my system myself, or how to obtain a copy of windows 7 using my Win7 activation key?
Hope there is some help out there, and anyone reading this who has not backed-up..... BACK-UP! before it's too late.
:smileyvery-happy:
P.S. While im here, I know that this is the wrong place to post this but i'm being a bit lazy; ever since I bought this notebook I have had a nightmare with the synaptic (think thats how its said) touch pad, I keep having to reset the drivers for it to work correctly, every hour or so the thing just becomes unresponsive. I have downloaded the drivers from the synaptics.com website, which improved things for a while, but it started again soon after. Is there a specific driver that will permanently fix this? Need an OS first however.. Thanks. :)

There were problems with the hard disk in my pavilion dv6. then i have to replace it with a new one. but unfortunately i have not created a back up disk for my original windows 7. is it possilble to reinstall the one that I had before I had to replace the hard disk? no drivers where found
Hi people,
Just attempting a new fresh custom install of windows 7 on my Pavilion dm1, and no drive drivers where found. I have search the installation media but cannot find them anywhere.
I downloaded the installation media from http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html (Home Prem.) as recommeneded by HP support, and im booting / installing from a usb drive, if that is relevent.
Where can I find these necessary driver please?
Than you :)
UPDATE: after reading some articles online regarding this problem, I think I may need e.g. motherboard setup? I completely messed things up yesterday when attempting to create a dual boot with win7 and Ubuntu, and not backing things up. Full post details can be read at:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Recovery/system-recovery/td-p/2752031
It seems as though I may have lost everything, although I can still enter the BIOS... :S
when not attempting to boot from my win7 usb, the message I receive on the screen reads:
Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot seletion failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I also did a diagnostic scan on my hdd which returned "OK".
:smileyfrustrated:
